AC/DC History 101

Chequers, a nightclub in Sydney, Australia had hosted anyone who was anyone in the international entertainment world, but there was something particularly special about the band that took the stage for the first time on New Year's Eve 1974.
Their name was AC/DC.
Rock and roll was dying and a guitarist named Malcolm Young wanted to recreate the sort of excitement his heroes like Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Fats Domino, The Who and The Stones had created.
The band's secret weapon was Malcolm's young brother, a tiny manic guitarist by the name of Angus who looked like he was still at school but who had obviously been taking advanced levels in his guitar classes.
With their name taken from the power outlet on their vacuum cleaner, some people believed it to be a reference to the bisexuality of the band members, a situation that saw them play a number of gay bars where they won over the patrons with their energy.
Their electrifying live show saw Angus not just in a schoolboy uniform but also occasionally dressed as Zorro and even Spiderman.
In July 1974, the band's first single, "Can I Sit Next To You Girl" backed with "Rockin In The Parlour," was released in Australia.
The single, which was produced by Harry Vanda and George Young, was well received.
Later, when the band were in Adelaide, Australia as part of their relentless touring schedule, a man named Bon Scott joined the band who, at the time, was recovering from a near fatal motorbike accident.
Scott immediately and not too surprisingly fell in love with AC/DC. He knew he could do better than their singer at the time and proved it beyond doubt one night while still in Adelaide when he took total control of the microphone.
The band officially united with Bon for the first time back in Sydney at Rockdale Masonic Hall in early October 1974.
AC/DC made five successful albums with Bon Scott including their first two albums only sold in Australia “High Voltage” and “TNT”. Their albums sold around the world were “High Voltage”, “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap”, “Powerage”, “Let There Be Rock” and “Highway To Hell”
At the end of the decade a tragic event happened. The great Bon Scott died for having choked on his vomit from a night of heavy drinking. The band was never the same.

The great high voltage band, AC/DC, later found a new vocalist. His name is Brian Johnson. Angus and Malcolm seemed comfortable with him and have been making the greatest albums ever since

Other Hard Rock Bands of the 80's
There are many other great hard rock bands like AC/DC. Such as Aerosmith, Alice Cooper and Queen. Hard rock music also influenced the 80's metal genre. Some bands formed then were Metallica, Megadeth and Van Halen.

Why is AC/DC The greatest band in the world?
We believe AC/DC is the greatest band in the world because they are hooked on the elements of electricity, explosions, sex and hell. The aspects of life that are most exciting. Like in the albums High Voltage, Powerage and Australian album TNT, the songs in these albums are mostly about electricity and explosions. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap and Let There Be Rock have songs that are mostly about sex and drinking. Highway to hell is the end of the Bon Scott era and this album is definitely about everything mixed together but now including the hell aspect. The lyrics of their songs are actually very interesting. like in the song Highway To Hell it talkes about facts that are sort of foreshadowing Bon Scott's life.

HighWay to Hell Lyrics
Living easy, living free
Season ticket on a one-way ride
Asking nothing, leave me be
Taking everything in my stride
Dont need reason, dont need rhyme
Aint nothing I would rather do
Going down, party time
My friends are gonna be there too

Im on the highway to hell

No stop signs, speed limit
Nobodys gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
Nobodys gonna mess me round
Hey satan, payed my dues
Playing in a rocking band
Hey momma, look at me
Im on my way to the promised land

Im on the highway to hell
(dont stop me)

And Im going down, all the way down
Im on the highway to hell
